چکیده

Despite enormous efforts worldwide during the last 16 years, the origin of high-Tc superconductivity (HTSC) in the doped cuprates has still not been settled. From a theoretical and microscopic point of view it is even unclear in the framework of which model the proper answer to the challenging HTSC problem should be searched, apart from all serious many-body difficulties caused by the strong correlation present in these compounds. Shortly after the discovery of HTSC it was widely believed that the so called pdσ-model (see Fig. 1) provides a general appropriate starting point to describe correctly the low-energy physics of undoped and doped cuprates including also superconductivity. The linear-chain compound Sr2CuO3 (see Fig.2a) consists of corner-shared CuO4 plaquettes, being the onedimensional (1D) analogue of the twodimensional (2D)-HTSC-compounds with CuO2 –planes, and provides an Stefan-Ludwig, Drechsler, Martin Knupfer, Jiri Málek, Jörg Fink Low-energy charge excitations in an undoped cuprate beyond the standard pdσ-model

Spin and Charge Fluctuations in Strongly Correlated Systems

Spin and charge are two fundamental degrees of freedom in strongly correlated electron systems. In this thesis we study low-energy effective theory and phase transitions of spin and charge in a variety of strongly correlated systems. First, we study effective theory of magnetic phase transition in Sp(4) spin system and iron-based superconductors. Quantum phase transitions beyond Landau paradigm...

Superconductivity versus Tunneling in a Doped Antiferromagnetic Ladder

The low-energy charge excitations of a doped antiferromagnetic ladder are modeled by a system of interacting spinless fermions that live on the same ladder. A relatively large spin gap is assumed to “freeze out” all spin fluctuations. We find that the formation of rung hole pairs coincides with the opening of a single-particle gap for charge excitations along chains and with the absence of cohe...

Collective excitations and the nature of Mott transition in undoped gapped graphene.

The particle-hole continuum (PHC) for massive Dirac fermions provides an unprecedented opportunity for the formation of two collective split-off states, one in the singlet and the other in the triplet (spin-1) channel, when the short-range interactions are added to the undoped system. Both states are close in energy and are separated from the continuum of free particle-hole excitations by an e...

Raman and fluorescence characteristics of resonant inelastic X-ray scattering from doped superconducting cuprates

Measurements of spin excitations are essential for an understanding of spin-mediated pairing for superconductivity; and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) provides a considerable opportunity to probe high-energy spin excitations. However, whether RIXS correctly measures the collective spin excitations of doped superconducting cuprates remains under debate. Here we demonstrate distinct R...

Operator Projection Theory for Electron Differentiation in Underdoped Cuprate Superconductors

Metals approaching the Mott insulator generate a new hierarchy in the electronic structure accompanied by a momentum dependent electron differentiation, beyond the MottHubbard, Brinkman-Rice and Slater pictures of the Mott transition. To consider such nonlinear phenomenon, we develop an analytic nonperturbative theory based on operator projections combined with a self-consistent treatment of th...
